Prototype 432
A form is seen as a structure constituted by a system of relations, and it is opposed to the substance of what is related. From this perspective, only the formal aspects of the form constitute the value of a work of art. Non-formal elements, such as representation, thought, emotion, information, and morality, are irrelevant because the value of the work consists exclusively in the manner of presenting and expressing its internal meanings.
The work is expressed and appreciated exclusively as an art object that is autonomous, self-sufficient, and representative of the aesthetic ideal of "pure form." It does not depend on real-life feelings, but rather consists entirely of the unity of pure, formal, and structural elements.
